Education. In 1985, he graduated from the Kazakh State University named after S.M.Kirov. Specialty – Physics. In 1996, he graduated from the Institute of Economics, Management and Law (Moscow, Russian Federation) with a degree in Economics (specialization in Banking). In 2017, he graduated from Oxford University with diploma in business school.

Work experience:

• Zh.B. Kurmanov started his work in 1985 at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR as an engineer. In 1996, he received the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences.
• He works on the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan since 1996.
• From December 1999 to July 2002, he held senior positions in the Department of Insurance Supervision and the Department of Banking and Insurance Supervision of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
• From August 2002 to February 2007, he worked as the General Director, Deputy General Director of GNPF Accumulative pension fund JSC.
• From 2007 to January 2016, he was a member of the board of directors of a number of financial and infrastructural organizations in the banking and insurance sectors and in the securities market. Since May 2012, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kazakhstani Stock Exchange JSC.
• From February 2016 to September 2017, he headed the Insurance Supervision Department and Department of Non-Banking Financial Organizations Regulation of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
• From September 2017 to March 2019, he served as Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
